Trainer
Kevin Lanouette
|
We are fortunate the times we have member Kevin Lanouette guiding us towards our Schutzhund Goals. Kevin has been training dogs for almost 20 years. Kevin worked as an apprentice at Canine College in Boston, with Karen Billings, owner, who was also an AKC judge. They worked together handling German Shepherds and Rottweilers for conformation and obedience. He then went to Alabama, where he trained extensively with Patrol and Narcotics dogs and in the sport of Schutzhund. Kevin has trained in Boston with Search and Rescues dogs too. He utilized this training while working at North Carolina Outward Bound School, handling a search and rescue dog. Kevin had trained his German Shepherd Colby from a companion dog to the level of Schutzhund III, many years ago and has obtained many Schutzhund III titles on dogs. He has been on the World team twice representing the Unite States and has scored in the top 10 in many of our National Schutzhund Championships here in the USA. He has been Regional Champion several times with his dog Gismo and has competed for FH titles as well. Since he is still very active competing with his dogs, we find Kevin to be of influence to us because he is sharing with us his training skills he is using to compete at the high level he does.
Because Kevin is traveling and competing all over the World, we try to book him as often as possible for group sessions. Our weekly trainers do journal each members progress to share with Kevin so when we meet with him, we are right up to date on our homework and can move forward with Kevins guidance to the next level.

Training Director:
Dawnmarie
|
Dawnmarie has been involved in German Shepherds for 10 years. She started in AKC conformation showing, worked a few dogs in early sheep herding for AKC - C course, studied basic obedience and then migrated over to the German Style show ring and into the sport of Schtuzhund. Dawnmarie has a natural talent to bring out the best in her dogs and dogs she is training by using positive motivational methods. She has been blessed to have trained with many National and World level Schutzhund competitors from the United States, such as Mike Pinksten, and then Training Seminars with Phil Hoelcher, Wallace Payne, Karoly Mezsaros and our own Kevin Lanouette, to name a few.
A lot of what Dawnmarie uses in her daily training, she learned from one of her favorite mentores, Meridith Vallillo, while working for her handling and training dogs at Connecticut Canine Services a business who imports the East Coasts best Police Dogs. Although Dawnmarie's Schutzhund training started about
ten years ago with Mike Pinksten who the SV awarded the highest rating, Certified Training Decoy, she is still a student and will be for as long as she is involved in German Shepherds. There is so much to learn and so many ways to get to where we all want to go. She teaches the club weekly and donates a lot of her time with the club.
